The New Cantonese Opera Princess Wencheng is performed by renowned National Class One performers including the two-time recipient of Plum Blossom Award winner Ou Kaiming and Plum Blossom Award winners Li Jiayi, Li Junsheng and Chen Yunhong, assembling a highly impressive cast. Set in the Tang dynasty, the repertoire depicts Princess Wencheng's marriage to the Tibet regime, which established friendly relations between the two empires, weaving historical events with emotional narratives. Different from the traditional melancholic image of a princess in a political marriage, the production portrays Wencheng as a spirited, intelligent and courageous woman, opening up new aesthetic dimensions in the art form.
